We are Mighty Koi Studio, located in the center of Warsaw.
We’re actively working on an extremely ambitious title set within an established IP.
"Thorgal" is a third-person action-adventure game with RPG elements inspired by Norse mythology and is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. We aim to create an intense emotional journey that will test Thorgal’s character and in particular challenge his moral values while paying homage to Thorgal’s rich lore and gallery of memorable characters.
We are looking for a Lead Level Designer who will join us!

Responsibilities:

  • Work hand in hand with Creative Director and Lead Game Designer to create levels that support the design philosophy of the Thorgal game and each propose a playground that makes use of and magnifies its core mechanics.
  • Work with Creative Director and Art Director / Tech Art to create best in class levels visually and conceptually, each proposing an unforgettable take on the Thorgal Universe and the Norse Mythology.
  • Work with the Narrative Director to ensure the levels support and tell the story.
  • Level Design is central to the game we are making and we intend to be bold.
  • Lead the level design team, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and training of new team members.
  • Develop concepts and layouts for game levels in accordance with the overall game concept and project requirements.
  • Participate in planning and managing the level creation process, including resource allocation and setting deadlines.
  • Create documentation and design guides for levels, ensuring their relevance and accessibility to the entire team.
  • Participate in testing and analyzing game levels to identify and address issues and shortcomings.
  • Interact with other departments (such as artists, programmers, and sound designers) to ensure compatibility and consistency of game levels.
  • Maintain a high level of quality and innovation in level design, keeping abreast of trends and advanced methods in the industry.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 8 years of experience in level design, in a lead or senior designer role, with experience in Third Person camera games.
  • Deep knowledge of level design principles, including spatial planning, player psychology, architecture principles, gameplay progression, playtesting, and difficulty balancing.
  • Experience with game engines and level design tools (such as Unreal Engine, or Unity).
  • Experience in game making tools beyond LD greatly appreciated.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively lead a team.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, risk taker and solution oriented mindset.
  • Curiosity, creative thinking and the ability to find unconventional solutions to create engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Degree in game development, art, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient English skills.
