For our brave tribe MATABOO we are looking for a talented Lead Art Conjuress/Conjurer (Lead Artist) to join our new project and support our team in the unique adventures we are taking part in and those ahead of us.

MATABOO supports developers and publishers at every stage of their projects. We specialize in co-development, porting, remasters, remakes, optimization, bug fixing, and other tasks for seasoned programmers. Our expertise spans across Unreal Engine, Unity, and proprietary engines. Whatever game platform or engine you choose, we are here to assist you.

MATABOO works closely with renowned studios, including Warner Bros. Games, Rocksteady, Frogwares, GSC Game World, Kepler Interactive, Bloober Team, Creepy Jar, Tate Multimedia and The Farm 51. We provide extensive support for titles like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Gotham Knights, Tchia, Chernobylite, Green Hell, The Medium, Kao the Kangaroo and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Sherlock Holmes game series.

We are a Polish company based in Warsaw, hidden in the silence and greenery of Fort Mokotów.

What will you work on?

  • A game remaster.

What will be your tasks? (your responsibilities)

  • Lead the art team, maintaining quality of deliverables, to leverage the visual fidelity of the assets to a level demanded by players today.
  • Work closely with our art druid to develop a cohesive communication of desired art direction through concept arts to be used in the artistic design documentation, art bibles, presentations, etc.
  • Compose moodboards, provide color schemes, sketches, and quick paintovers to help, guide or mentor artists to make sure that the visual direction for our game is clear and recognisable.
  • Gather screenshots, reference boards and documents to illustrate the desired quality benchmark.
  • Partner with the 2D animators to ensure the direction is within stylistic guidelines.
  • Partner with tech artists and 3D artists to make sure that assets delivered by our team fit within expectations set by concept artists.
  • Come up with creative ways to make sure that the look and feel of the final product is as close to benchmark titles as possible.
  • Report to the producers and contribute to the documentation of Milestones that will include work of your team.

What kind of professional are we looking for?

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Lead Artist.
  • Experience in the full development process of a published title, and co-creation in the art style of a game that was already released in.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate art direction, mood, emotional impact and atmosphere through examples, moodboards and paintovers.
  • High skill in bashing a few photo examples together to check if it produces the desired impact.
  • Having a proven track record of creating stunning visually appealing and well-crafted concept art.
  • Strong understanding of art fundamentals, multiple art styles, composition, color theory, and lighting and keen eye for detail.
  • Utilization of 3D packages to a degree that allows you to work more efficiently as an artist.
  • Very good knowledge of the game market and an ability to analyse various art styles in games.
  • Ability to independently plan your own work including estimating the needed time, searching for references.
  • A passion for game development and the ability to both inspire and execute.

Additional advantages will be:

  • Familiarity with traditional Japanese art style and basic knowledge of Japanese culture history.
  • Passion for strategic games or experience with work on such titles.
  • Experience in designing and creating UI.
