I'm the former founder of Turbine, which made MMO games including Lord of the Rings Online, and was bought by Warner Bros. for $160 million.

Now my friends and I are making an AR mobile walking game in Warsaw with a big Hollywood franchise. (It's a secret, but it's one of the big ones, like Harry Potter or Star Wars.) Our advisors include former Lucasfilm COO, Blizzard President, and PlayStation CEO.

We are hiring a character artist (and other art roles). We do it Mission: Impossible style with insane happy energy!

Top level salary. You can work from home, remotely, and if you live near Warsaw our team is based there so that we can occasionally meet. We have a budget for joint trips to tourist attractions, escape rooms and other games, dinners, all paid by the company. Unlike other companies that are mismanaged and constantly in "crunch time", we have a smooth, no drama operation where everyone is excited to make a new category of video game.

You could be part-time or full-time. Full-timers get 26 paid vacation days a year. We invest in people to be creative and invent the future. We plan to grow 3x in the next year, giving you much more responsibility than other employers to prove yourself and move up!

Responsibilities:

• Design and create high-quality, stylized, and/or realistic 3D characters optimized for mobile games.
• Collaborate with designers, animators, and developers to ensure characters fit the game's visual style and technical requirements.
• Produce efficient low- to mid-poly character models with clean topology, UV layouts, and textures suitable for mobile platforms.
• Optimize character assets for performance across a variety of mobile devices.
• Optionally, implement characters in Unity if needed.
• Optionally, assist with rigging and skinning to support animation workflows.

Requirements:

• A leader who "gets" the game's vision and goals, and can lead design, not just follow orders.
• Social, makes friends easily. It's a remote job but most of us are around Warsaw and we have occasional fun team meet-ups.
• Disciplined artist who finishes what you start
• Excited by the challenge of inventing a new category of video game
• Portfolio showcasing strong character art skills targeted at mobile games.
• Minimum 3 years of experience creating game-ready characters for mobile platforms.
• Proficient in 3D modeling and texturing software such as Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, or similar.
• Solid understanding of mobile performance constraints and optimization techniques.
• Ability to produce diverse character styles according to project needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Optional: Experience with rigging and skinning characters.

Bonus Skills:

• Can make other types of art such as clothing, concept art, environmental art
• Familiarity with Unity or other mobile game engines.
• Experience with PBR workflows and mobile-friendly texturing.
• Contributions to published mobile game titles.
• Knowledge of real-time character pipeline and integration.

We prefer B2B contracts but other types are fine. We value diversity, and have hired many immigrants into Poland.
